Calculation of the right of stay
In accordance with the provisions of the Community Code on Visas, Romania issues Schengen visas for the purpose of a stay on the territory of the Member States (MS) not exceeding 90 days in any period of 180 days or for transit through international transit areas at the airports of the Member States.
In order to establish your right of stay in the Schengen area, please bear in mind that the date of entry shall be the first day of stay on the territory of the Member State, and the date of exit shall be the last day of stay on the territory of the Member State.
Periods of stay authorised under a residence permit previously held in the territory of a Member State or a national long-stay visa shall not be taken into account in the calculation of the duration of stay.
You have the opportunity to calculate your right of stay by using the calculation method made available by the European Commission.
In the case of States or local authorities which are not recognised by at least one Member State, visas will be issued on request on separate visa application forms.
PLEASE NOTE!
As of March 31, 2024, when Romania joins the Schengen Area, third-country nationals who are holders of visas and residence permits issued by Cyprus will no longer be able to enter Romania without a valid Schengen visa (type C visa) or a national long-stay visa (type D visa) issued by the Romanian authorities.
